“Exceptional physical plant, fascinating beach and wonderful staff”

We stayed at Baraza for several nights at the end of safaris through Tanzania. Although the power from the mainland had not been restored, the resort and staff not only coped well, but we saw no lapses at all. The villas are very large and inviting on hot (almost stifling) days, with a plunge pool to cool off and so many places to settle in and enjoy the amenities and the view. Clean and white and an Arabian fantasy in feel. The tides and the tide-pooling in front of the resort were fascinating for reef-walking and following natives looking for octopus hiding in the reef. Just watch out as the tide comes back quickly. Sunrise over the ocean was spectacular from the upper beach or from the terrace of the villa, a wonderful way to start the day with a cup of coffee watching the sun rise.. My husband hurt himself while we were there and could not walk far and the staff could not have been more accommodating, bringing a doctor to our villa and making sure he did not have to walk far. We found the food to be really excellent, fresh, with a good deal of variety and choice. It is an exceptionally romantic place with twinkling lights at night, a very nice spa, eating places different every night, nice entertainment and places to sit and enjoy the stars. I really very much want to go back as it was a true escape, and met standards that are hard to meet outside of SE Asia. . Guest nationality: American Reviewed August 8, 2010
