We booked last minute and I thought the price at first to be outrageous but Baraza managed to make it seem worth the price. The resort is all inclusive and it's small. So it feels intimate and you don't have to worry about anything once you are there. We were given a two bedroom villa. It was lovely. Great furnishings, a nice back deck with dip pool. Very comfortable and spacious. High quality. I think the thing that makes Baraza so special is the service. The staff is very welcoming and always willing to accomodate. If you want to eat in your room -- no problem. If you want to eat by the pool -- no problem. The beach is lovely (though while we were there it was low tide for much of the day and the water has it's share of kelp) and there was plenty of space to find our own spot away from anybody. Great for Sea shell hunting. It really did feel like you were away from it all. Did not encounter a single American, what a bonus that was. The food is close to top notch. You never want for anything. The bar is a really nice place to have a drink before or after dinner. They had live music two of the nights we were there. The spa is small but nice. The resort will arrange all of your transfers or set up a tour of Stone Town which should not be missed if you come all the way to Zanzibar. I'd recommend flying to Zanzibar over taking the ferry from Dar es Salaam. We took the ferry and it was a bit hectic for the family. A couple of backbackers no problem but getting on and off the ferry while an invigorating experience was a bit much for a young child. Overall, a great place to relax. A great place to honeymoon though be warned it is one of the few resorts of its ilk on Zanzibar that allow children so if you want to avoid kids you might want to go elsewhere. But it's such a small place that even though three of the 15 groups who were staying at the resort while were were there (incluing us) had children, it wasn't a bother. It's very easy to avoid people at Baraza if that is your choice. If you are looking for an exclusive resort that is truly away from it all and makes you feel special this is an excellent choice.
